New Year, New Beginnings

This blog has had an extended Christmas holiday but now is the time to return to the action as I am back in Zomba and plunged into the start of a new academic year.

My first couple of weeks have been much occupied with getting set for a new set of Masters students to arrive, which they duly did on Friday. They are all very excited to have the opportunity to embark on postgraduate studies and we enjoyed a lively time at orientation.

A new development this year is that the Churches of Christ have decided to make a concerted effort to raise the educational level of their pastors. So they are sending quite a number to enrol on different programmes at ZTU, including five on the Masters programme. From small beginnings during the early 20th century, the Churches of Christ have a widespread presence in Malawi today.

The rainy season had a slow start this year but the rains have been steady this month so everything is lush, green and beautiful. We pray for good growing conditions and no big storms, to allow people to get back to normal after a punishing time last year.

  1. How interesting and unusual to see for once a group of scholars with papers and books — and no screens! I like that! How encouraging to see the church continuing to train its leaders at the highest academic level. Blessings all round!
